He was a great leader of the Indian Nationalist Movement and also one of the architects of the Indian Constitution. In 1902, he stood first in the entrance examination for Calcutta University to take admission in Presidency College. Later changed from science to arts and completed dual master degrees in Arts in Economics and Law and won gold medal too. He become the only one who hold the office twice as President of India.
